Does anyone say, "Merry 25th of December"? No, we say, "Merry Christmas!"
Then, why say "Happy 4th of July" when the name of the holiday is Independence Day?
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it.... -- Declaration of IndependenceToday is an excellent day to read the Declaration of Independence. Then, ask yourself, how many of the grievances against King George III listed therein apply today under our current governments? You'll be surprised.
We need to start asking ourselves some fundamental questions:
1 - Is it time to "alter or abolish" our present form of "government?"
2 - Does it still serve the ends defined in the Declaration of Independence?
3 - Or has it become the enemy of our life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness?
We have an opportunity to "alter or abolish" the central, State, and local governments in November. The nation's founders wisely gave us the opportunity to replace approximately one third of the Senate, the entire House of Representatives, and the entire Administration this year. Similar opportunities abound at the State and local levels.
That's called a revolution -- just what we celebrate our founders did in 1776.
Sadly, history shows we won't take full and appropriate advantage of this opportunity to revolt against our oppressive governments and replace them with better representation.
Doing this will require a mental revolution: A casting off of old prejudices, assumptions, manipulations, and mythologies. Each of us must do the work of causing this revolution in our own minds.
